Timber frames – Cosy, timber-built feel for any home

Timber Frames

Stylish, bespoke timber frame homes of the highest quality

Since 1993 we have designed and manufactured premium timber frames. For our own new houses, for self-builders and for other property developers too. Our bespoke timber frames can suit any spec for any size or type of development. Each one is expertly created from softwood timber with feature oak at our own factory and because we use state-of-the-art technology accurately, precise results are achieved every time. We can deliver the most intricate designs such as vaulted ceilings, dormer windows and feature porches.

Pelham Structures Ltd uses innovative, offsite construction techniques to deliver the highest quality projects. We recently invested in a new factory in Clavering, which has further increased the efficiency, quality, speed and sustainability of our timber frame manufacturing.

We primarily work in Bishop’s Stortford, Cambridge, Hertford, Royston and the surrounding areas.

Why choose a Timber Frame?

  • Design

Our timber frames comfortably meet the standards set and defined in Building Regulations. It promotes higher standards of sustainable design. In turn that reduces the carbon footprint of the build. This improves on the minimum standards for: airtightness, sound insulation, responsible sourcing, environmental impact of materials and construction waste reduction in the current Building Regulations.

  • Flexibility

It’s a comparatively light building material. So timber is particularly well-suited to brownfield sites in Bishop’s Stortford and surrounding areas with poor soil conditions. It’s also useful for sites that have restricted access – we can transport modular components easily. Also, prefabricated panels offer strict quality control and fewer post-erection quality issues.

  • Speed

In comparison to other materials, erecting a timber frame requires 25% fewer on-site days. So clients get a faster turnaround and it’s more cost-effective. Plus, the external skin can be applied independently of the internal trades. So that speeds up the construction process even more.

  • Quality

Every component of a timber frame is precision engineered and manufactured under strictly controlled conditions. This guarantees repeatable superior quality. Precise and accurate engineering drawings take away the need for you to measure for doors and windows on site.

  • Style

Our timber frames are cladded externally – so they can be finished in a variety of styles to suit your taste. Choices include render, timber boarding, brick and flint. For the interiors we build beautiful oak features including visible trusses and chamber beams. They give a truly cosy, robust and timber-built feel for any home.

  • Energy efficiency

Homes with timber frames can be highly insulated. Along with the natural thermal quality that timber already has, the properties heat up quickly. So they are less costly to run. Then during the warmer months the insulation helps to keep them cool and comfortable. It’s win win all round.

  • Environmentally friendly

The embodied carbon costs of producing a timber frame are considerably less in comparison to masonry construction. Our timber is carefully sourced from managed forests in the northern hemisphere. These ethical enterprises harvest mature trees and replant younger specimens in their places. So the cycle is sustainable.

  • Engineering craftsmanship

Where engineered solutions and traditional craftsmanship combine all of our bespoke features such as oak and Glulam. Trusses and Porches are hand assembled to check fit before delivery.
